About

I am a software engineer with over 40 years of hands-on experience, from 8-bit home computers to cloud-native microservices.

My fascination for computers began in 1982 with a Sinclair ZX-81. After exploring home computers like the TI-99 4/A and the VIC-20, I wrote my first BASIC program on a C64 in 1985. I learned 8-bit assembler on the C128, then moved on to M68000 assembler and C on the Commodore Amiga, before transitioning to Turbo Pascal on PC/MS-DOS. From there I worked across many Windows and UNIX platforms, using C/C++ until adopting Java as my primary language around 2000.

My diploma thesis in 1998 sparked a deep interest in distributed systems – an expertise that proved invaluable during my time at Brokat/Encorus/First Data, where I worked at the core of the Brokat Java Enterprise Edition application server Twister, used by numerous banks for their online banking solutions.

Throughout my career I have contributed to various open-source and free software projects, and I continue to be passionate about clean architecture, cloud-native development, and solving complex engineering challenges.
